Sacrifice

Sacrifice is one of the most important factors of life. You sacrifice today for results in the future.

Many young people today have grown up in a NOW or must-have-now environment. The ME generation. You go to a restaurant, and you see young children 2-3 playing games on an iPad or some other electronic game. They are meant to keep their attention focused on the NOW and to keep them from whining or throwing a tantrum, etc. They grow up with very little patience or the ability to sacrifice needs for the future.

We may all give in to the misbehavior of our children at times, but it doesn’t help them to be self-sufficient and to sacrifice NOW for saving for the future.

It took me 10 years of saving enough money to buy a home…sacrificing for a vacation, or a new car, or going out to dinner. It takes time and patience. There are really no shortcuts.

We may have illusions of grandeur by hitting the jackpot in Las Vegas, or winning the lottery, or today’s gambling apps, which can create addictive behavior.

As my father-in-law always told me, for every $10 you make, put away $1.

Sacrifice and patience.
