Transparency
Transparency is one of the most important aspects of government. We pay the taxes that support government policies and actions. We should know when, where, and the results.
When local governments want to raise money for infrastructure and have a $100,000,000 bond issue, shouldn’t we know when and where the dollars are going?
What roads are being fixed, what bridges are being built or repaired, what schools are being rebuilt or added, etc?
When I was the General Manager of radio stations and had a budget, say for advertising, every dollar spent was documented as to whether it was for TV, billboards, or other, and which stations, how much, etc. An analysis was done to see what worked best. All businesses and companies have budgets and must account for the dollars spent to see if they prove out or may be eliminated…transparency.
With California’s high-speed rail boondoggle from nowhere to nowhere, billions have been spent with little or no transparency. What did we get for the money? Without transparency, billions of dollars are being poured into illegal coffers. Corruption is rampant and goes on throughout the government.
Once a government department is established and seemingly achieves its goals, are they ever dissolved? Mostly, they just continue and waste our tax dollars. Billions of dollars have been discovered as being wasteful or fraudulent by Musk and his group…what happened?
There should be mandatory transparency bills in government to vouchsafe where the money goes and if it is necessary. It’s our tax dollars, and we want to know what happened.
