Deportation
When I was going to college, I worked for United Insurance Company of America. My territory, in part, was East LA. Working on leads from the home office, I dealt almost exclusively with Hispanics, mostly Mexican clientele. I found them to be the kindest and most welcoming people to deal with…never had a problem.
My first job in Radio was with KALI AM, a Spanish-language station. I worked again in East LA, where my first sale was to Noe Gonzales, owner of Gonzales Motors. I never had a problem with the Hispanic community.
All this being said, I have a problem with how our administration is dealing with the deportation of illegal immigrants. We should only be going after the criminal element, not the hard-working Hispanics working in agriculture or those at Car Washes, or the gardeners, etc. Many of these people who came here illegally have been here for 20, 30, or more years. What positive result can come from uprooting families after so many years? Illegal entry is a misdemeanor, not a felony. If a US citizen commits a misdemeanor, they often just get a slap on the wrist.
Let’s stop the fear and upset and go after the criminals, not those who have been here over 4-5 years. The punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
