Mascots

I am sure you have noticed that many business entities have a mascot. Have you thought about why they do that?

I think that it is to soften and humanize their hard nose profit oriented company into a nice “cuddly” organization.

Let’s look at the Insurance companies that you have to fight to keep your policies if you file a claim: GEICO and the Gecko lizard, LIBERTY and Limu Emu, PROGRESSIVE and Flo, and the Duck to represent AFLAC, to name a few.

Sports, which is a cutthroat business, uses mascots to represent their team like they were beloved Disney characters.

Beloved or popular figures have long been used to represent a product or company. Basketball greats like Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan, and Charles Barkley come to mind, as do other athletes like Tom Brady in football and Shohei Ohtani in baseball.

Walt Disney created all sorts of wild animals into lovable and sweet characters in cartoon form…now they try to show business in the same manner.
