Shutdown

Government shutdowns are a recurring theme that is happening too often. Since 1976, there have been 20 government shutdowns. Threats are common during budget negotiations. Congress has passed 47 continuing resolutions (CR) since 2010-2023…temporary funding measures (CR) must be approved to avoid shutdown.

Since this has been and will always be a problem as both Parties seek to gain advantages, it is time to create a system to avoid this yearly fiasco.

A budgeting impasse in Congress presents the passage of appropriation bills needed to fund federal agencies…due to partisan divisions. Once Congress has approved, it goes to the Senate, where they need 60 votes to pass. Currently, there are 53 Republicans and 57 Democrats, needing at least 7 Democrats to cross the aisle.

There has got to be a better way.
