Penalties

Watching the college and NFL games has been really exciting this year, and I noticed something important about penalties. Even though every once in a while the refs and umps may miss something, they usually get it right and keep the games under control.

There are penalties from 5 yards to 15 yards, from interference to being thrown out of the game for unsportsmanlike conduct or head-to-head spearing.

I am comparing these penalties to those that should be enforced when society oversteps its bounds with illegal activity. Taunting is an offense in football, but goes unimpeded during protests. Blocking pathways of Federal officers seems to be a common occurrence and has gotten people killed for it. As an example, blocking in the back is a 5-yard penalty, but blocking legal action is?

Sports would get out of control without guidelines and referees or umpires. We need better controls rather than hiding behind Free Speech and the right to protest.

New rules: impeding officers doing their job: 6 months in jail. Taunting officers: 3 months in jail… You get the idea, we need better controls in the political game.
