The War on Drugs
There has been some controversy regarding the clandestine kidnapping of President Maduro and his wife from Venezuela. Was it to stop drug trafficking, regime change, or oil? Venezuela supplies cocaine from Colombia and is considered a Narcoterrorist; however, the more deadly drug, fentanyl, enters the US from Mexico and is produced in China and India.
Will this event open the doors to other countries, such as Russia and China, to produce similar actions?
Are we going to go into other countries to curtail drug importation? What are the ramifications? Is Columbia next? Or Mexico?
We went after and got Osama bin Laden and Qasim Soleimani, and Anwar al Awlaki…terrorists all.
The positive position for the US is that we will do what we say to protect our people and our interests. The downside is that we may be encouraging bad actors to do the same, and that it is a violation of International law, but so is Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Years ago, in the mid-19th century, England and China went to war over the opium trade.
What we did is not unprecedented but will be argued on either side.
